The project focuses on narrative forms that develop from 19th century articulos de costumbres. In this regard it is based on a wider, cross-epochal and cross-media definition of costumbrismo. Furthermore it makes the case that since the 20th century film and television take the place of the novel as the primary media for costumbrista fiction.
