PhD Studentships in French Studies
Second Language Acquisition

One full RCUK equivalent studentship in the area of Second Language Acquisition is available from September 2016.

In addition to applications for doctoral study (3), we also welcome applications from students wishing to undertake the MA Linguistics programme in preparation for progression onto a doctoral programme (13 scheme).

Subject to satisfactory progress, these awards will cover:

  • Tuition fees at the Home/EU rate.
  • Annual maintenance stipend of £14,057 (2015/16 rate)

Application Process

Please note that you must submit your online application for a place on your chosen PhD/MA programme by 22 January 2016.

There is no separate application form for this studentship. To apply for a +3 studentship, Please submit the form for the Presidential Doctoral Scholar (PDS) competition (if eligible) and additionally the application form for School Funding and indicate that you are also interested in the subject-specific funding. The deadline for both the PDS Awards and School Funding is 5pm, 12 February 2016.

The forms should be returned to the Graduate School Office (Phdfunding-salc@manchester.ac.uk by 5pm, 12 February 2016.

Literary/Cultural Studies

One full RCUK equivalent studentship in the area of French Literary/Cultural Studies is available from September 2016.

In addition to applications for doctoral study (3), we also welcome applications from students wishing to undertake the MA Translation Studies programme, or any other MA programme offered within SALC, provided the dissertation will be on a subject related to French which can be supervised from within French Studies, in preparation for progression onto a doctoral programme (13 scheme).
