The organizers of the workshop invite abstracts for new research ideas on yet unwritten stories of protagonists who experienced the Spanish Civil War. The focus lies on the history of Women and/or of Jewish Volunteers. The distinctive feature of this project lies explicitly on perspectives and persons that have not yet been researched.

The workshop is part of a new DFG cooperation project led by Raanan Rein (Tel Aviv University) and Susanne Zepp (Freie Universität Berlin). The meeting at Freie Universität Berlin will open a series of exploratory workshops in Berlin and Tel Aviv which shall serve to identify a diverse set of historical persons whose stories of the Spanish Civil War have not yet been told, and whose examination will both respect their particular historical experiences and reveal the collective aspects of their history. We welcome contributions at different stages of development, also researches at preliminary stages. A title for the paper and an abstract of 200-250 words can be submitted to raanan@tauex.tau.ac.il and susanne.zepp@fu-berlin.de. The deadline for submitting an abstract is March 1st, 2022. The essential eligibility criterion is whether the proposal contains a new perspective, a previously untapped archive or the untold life story of a person relevant to the research question.

PUBLISHING OPPORTUNITY: After the three workshops, authors can be invited to further elaborate their research contributions and submit an article for publication of a special issue in a scientific journal.
