Postdoctoral researcher & scientific coordinator position in Linguistics (100% TV-L 13, we welcome all genders) at the Trier Center for Language and Communication, Patterns research group, Trier University

The research program Patterns. Linguistic Creativity and Variation in Synchrony and Diachrony is a collaborative, interdisciplinary research project funded by the Forschungsinitiative Rheinland-Pfalz 2019-2023, and carried out by researchers in Linguistics, Communication and Media studies, and related fields across different departments at Trier University (English, German, Romance, Slavic language departments; Computational Linguistics; Phonetics; Media Studies; Cognitive Psychology; Survey Statistics). The project has an excellent infrastructure and network for the support of early-career researchers. More information about the program can be found here: https://patterns.unitrier.de/about-us/?lang=en

The position is to be filled as soon as possible, and will be limited to 12/2023.

Your tasks
You will be working on tasks that are suitable for promoting your qualifications to pursue a career in academia. Apart from being an active researcher in a domain relevant to our project and an active member of our research team, you will take on responsibilities in the scientific coordination of the research group, as part of a coordination team. These tasks will involve, e.g., supporting and coordinating internal and external communication, supporting third-party funding proposals and scientific collaborations, co-organising regular ECR meetings, or coordinating a team of student assistants. You will also be expected to teach one class (2 hrs a week) per semester, on a topic that is related to your research.
Ideally, you will submit your own research proposal to a third-party funding organisation during the time of the contract (e.g., in the DFG’s ‘Eigene Stelle’ format). We offer you support and mentoring in all research-related activities within the realm of the Patterns project, as well as a vibrant interdisciplinary and friendly working environment.

Qualifications
• a Master’s degree in linguistics (or a closely related field)
• a doctoral degree / PhD and a sound publication record in linguistics (German, English, Romance linguistics; computational linguistics; phonetics), in a domain that is within the realm of our Patterns project (cf. our website).
• an excellent research plan for the time of the contract
• professional experience in areas that are relevant to the coordination tasks listed above
• a good command of English and German (near native in one of these languages)

Your application
Please send your application, which may be in German or English, in one single pdf file to Prof. Sabine Arndt-Lappe (arndtlappe@uni-trier.de) or to JProf. Katharina Zahner-Ritter (k.zahner-ritter@unitrier.de). The deadline for applications is March, 25, 2022. Your application should include a cover letter, a CV with details of your academic career and two potential referees, your list of publications, a short exposé (max. 2 pages) of your planned research project and its relation to our research group (including potential collaborators in the Patterns research group), and copies of school and university diplomas.

Disabled candidates with appropriate qualifications will be given priority. Trier University aims to increase the quota of women in research and teaching, and explicitly encourages female academics to apply.
