Associate Professorship (with Tenure) in Latin American Studies (100%)

The Associate Professorship in Latin American Studies is embedded in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) at the University of St.Gallen. The successful candidate will take up the position preferable on 1 February or 1 August 2024.

The postholder will represent the field of Latin American Studies within the SHSS-HSG. The position is interdisciplinary, but within the humanities (such as literary studies, cultural studies, history or philosophy etc.) or social sciences (such as sociology, human geography or anthropology etc.).

Requirements are an excellent doctoral dissertation, a second monograph completed or equivalent publications (set of articles comparable to a habilitation), as well as an outstanding track record in research, teaching and leadership. The successful candidate is expected to have an interdisciplinary profile, experience in raising external funding, an excellent network in Latin America and the willingness to engage with colleagues from other schools at HSG (business studies, economics, political science, computer science and law).

Applicants are expected to teach at the BA, MA and PhD levels, especially in the University’s Contextual Studies Programme, which is central to the HSG’s integrative and holistic approach to higher education. The teaching load of this full-time position is 8 hours per week.

The University of St.Gallen is committed to promoting equal opportunities and an inclusive working culture. We explicitly encourage members of underrepresented groups to apply. The postholder must have an excellent knowledge of English and Spanish (Portuguese would be an asset, too) and is expected to acquire a passive knowledge of German within two years of their appointment. The University’s official language is German.

Enquiries should be addressed to Prof. Dr. Caspar Hirschi, Chair of the Appointments Committee (facultyposition@unisg.ch).

Applications should include a cover letter and the usual supporting documents in English (CV, list of publications, teaching evaluations, but no copies of publications and references). They should be submitted online via http://www.unisg.ch/professorships at the latest by 25 August 2023. Research talks are expected to take place in calendar week 48.
