The School of Languages, Literatures and Cultural Studies (SLLCS) warmly welcomes applications for a position of Assistant Professor in Italian in the field of 20th/21st century Italian literature and culture. The successful candidate will join a dynamic, research active team and will be a key member contributing to teaching and research excellence and innovation.

SLLCS is one of the largest of the twelve Schools in the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences and has over 140 members of staff in all, including full time academics, language assistants and lectors, part-time teachers, and professional staff. SLLCS is made up of the Departments of French, Germanic Studies, Hispanic Studies, Italian, Irish and Celtic Studies, Near and Middle Eastern Studies, Russian and Slavonic Studies, the Centre for European Studies, the Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Studies, the Centre for Literary and Cultural Translation, the Centre for Forced Migration Studies, and the HCI-funded Centre for Global Intercultural Communications. The School enjoys a very high international reputation in its teaching and research and attracts highly qualified and motivated students from Ireland and internationally. Since its inception, it has consistently been ranked in the top 100 in Modern Languages. It is currently ranked 57th in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023.

Post status: Full time post, 5-year fixed term, with tenure track.

Salary: Appointment will be made on the Lecturer Salary Scale (109BN) commensurate with qualifications / experience and in line with Public Sector Pay Policy (€38,719 to €94,031 per annum) https://www.tcd.ie/hr/assets/pdf/monthly-academic.pdf. Appointment is intended at postdoctoral level, point 8 (Merged Scale, €54,566) in the first instance, honouring the relevant scale point for colleagues already in the public service in Ireland.

• A research plan (summarising research to be carried out in the next three to five years and including details of funding to be sought – 2 pages max.)
• A teaching statement (summarising teaching philosophy, and experience – 2 pages max.)
• A sample syllabus of 3 potential original modules that could be offered in a research-led context (with teaching scheduled Weeks 1-6 and 8-12, and normally 2 hours per week), plus a separate list specifying areas of expertise that could be covered in terms of research-informed teaching in the field of 20th/21st century Italian literature and culture.
